6 Things Your Yoga Teacher Wants You To Know

6 Things Your Yoga Teacher Wants You To Know

Yoga teachers are brimming with wise suggestions and helpful tips. Your classes are filled with instructions and alignment cues, but sometimes, we teachers, miss sharing what’s most important. Here are six things that your yoga teacher wants you to know.

Wherever You Are Now Is Fine

We all start from somewhere. We often think we’re too fat, too old, or not the right shape or size. We are all gloriously imperfect beings. Wherever you are right now, you are perfectly suited for yoga. There is a path forward from your current situation to move you towards your goal. Be content with where you are now, for it is just a starting point. The world awaits.

Stay Consistent and Be Patient

Some people enjoy the routine of a daily practice. Others just can’t manage that schedule for reasons of work, family, or responsibilities and squeeze in only a single class per week. Every little bit helps to improve your health. Something is better than nothing. Show up. Be consistent.

Avoid Comparisons with Others

It’s hard to avoid comparing. Someone else is always going to be more flexible, able to hold a pose longer, or seem to look “better” in their yoga outfit.

Let it all go.

We all have our challenges in life. Someone you envy might have serious hidden issues which they are shouldering. You are on your own path. Do the best you can with what you have available to you. Nurture gratitude for where you are.

Treasure the Small Improvements

Maybe one day you get a little closer to balancing in Warrior 3. Maybe another day you cross a milestone of how long you’re able to hold Crescent-Moon. Celebrate those achievements, stop telling yourself that you a suck at a pose (only I’m allowed to say that)

You Are Worthy of Compassion

Imagine your much-older self, looking back on the current you with compassion and pride. Imagine that they are beamingly proud of you for what you are working on. Imagine that they are grateful to you for how you are caring for your body. Be gentle and kind with yourself.

You are taking steps to make things better. Nurture yourself as you go.

Gratitude

It’s so easy to fall in the trap of consistently thinking of things that aren’t quite working out the way they should. Remind yourself of the things that are working the way they should. Give yourself a hug, be thankful.

Namaste.

About your Yoga Teacher

Puneeta has been involved in the world of Yoga since the age of 10, when she was first introduced to it by her mother. At 19, she began teaching the spiritual practice in Singapore, before moving to London where she opened a studio focusing on the Hatha and Vinyasa styles for over 10 years. Her international experience eventually brought her to Melbourne, where she opened Repose Yoga (formerly known as Yoga In Mount Waverley) with one core principle in mind – to express the ancient teachings of Yoga in a fun and relevant way.

Focusing on two of Yoga’s most distinct styles – Hatha and Vinyasa – her teaching method emphasises correct technique and alignment that promotes the mastery of each pose. With over 20 years’ experience, Puneeta has taught a wide range of students, who, with regular class attendance, have benefited in their physical and mental wellbeing.

Classes are held in Mount Waverley 7 days a week with range of times and classes to choose from. Click on the timetable to see what may be suitable for you.
